Nihilistic Violent Extremism Working Group

The goals of the Nihilistic Violent Extremism Working Group (NVEWG) are to bring together individuals from across various disciplines to:

  • Better understand and define NVE.
  • Help produce materials, such as 2-page explainers and mini guides, that are tailored to particular audiences.
  • Develop and conduct research in consultation with all our partner so that it will be practical and relevant.

“Nihilistic Violent Extremism: New Research Across the Atlantic”

Nihilistic violent extremism (NVE) is an evolving threat characterized by decentralized, transnational networks who promote societal collapse through indiscriminate violence, coercive tactics, and the targeted exploitation of vulnerable youth.

Join panelists from the National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education Center (NCITE), the Canadian Network for Research on Security, Extremism and Society (CANSES), and the U.K.-based Centre for Research and Evidence on Security Threats (CREST) for a trilateral webinar to provide early visibility into emerging NVE research agendas.

Unlike traditional ideologically driven movements, NVE constitutes a hybridized threat that converges violent extremism, organized cybercrime, and sextortion thereby creating complex, cross-sector challenges for law enforcement, educators, and communities worldwide.

The webinar seeks to identify where practitioner insight is critical and outline how engagement, feedback, and operational perspectives from practitioners and other end-users can meaningfully strengthen ongoing work.
